Queen of Silmugi Festival 2009

poster

A lot of Borbonanons, especially those from the younger generation maybe wondering why Borbon’s festival is named Silmugi. According to oral history, it is named after the Silmugi River located in between the barangays of Poblacion and Cadaruhan. The river played a big part during Borbon’s formulation as a town because in the past, the river was knowned to be so big and wide that a boat travelled by it. It is where the rainwater from the many mountain barangays cascaded and flowed into the ocean. Moreover, the river was also the main gateway for many residents who lived in the mountains and hillsides of Borbon when they visited the coastal barangays to do their barter and trade businesses.

So this year, Mayor Butch Sepulveda and the local officials have named the Borbon 2009 festival after this meaningful river. At the same time, the local officials aim to develop Silmugi into an eco-tourism park for family and tourists. This newly named festival is also Borbon’s answer to the Cebu Provincial government’s “Pasigarbo sa Sugbu”, a grand festival of Cebu province, which our town can now participate.

Last January 18, 2009, the search for the Queen of Silmugi Festival 2009 was held at the town plaza and Ms. Elizah Rose Samonte was crowned as the town’s first festival queen.

Thanks to Ms. Alma Mondigo, TAGA-BORBON Organization’s local president for these photos from the pageant search.

i’v bn der n borbon yesterday jan. 18, 2010.bcoz i was nvited by my friend to watch silmugi queen festival. as i watch the pageant, honestly contestant # 11 caught my eye.she is amazing compared w/ d other contstnt. maybe # 3 is dserving but they should include # 11 n runners up. swimsuit, gown, and photogenic should go to # 11. its not about the dress they wore, its about how they carry the dress not the dress carrying them. she is representing the school not the place so ders no reason that she is not from borbon thats she did not get 1 of the spot ( some reasons i heared form ppol). the organizer on that pageant really SUCKS. he is the background emcee and at the same time he is the tabulator, in short the pageant is LUTONG MAKAW. i ask my friend hu is he, he is louise dela rama. if he is still d organizer next year im sure silmugi festival will still SUCKS 2 times. i went to borbon bcoz i think it’s fair and bogacious but i was dissapointed. hope they will improve next year. hope the organizer will read this.

thanks tagaborbon for being open minded. you know how to take in cristism from other ppol. well for me silmugi festival was not really that good because u will hear other ppol complaining on how the pageant organize. especially the result…and yes mr. nonay was right, der should b an age bracket bcoz it’s not easy to b in the stage with plenty of ppol watching u.

    God bless…

in all fairness, deserving din naman talaga ang winner..but i agree with bevs that no. 11 also stands out, in fact bet pod nako katong taga Don. G. Antigua…

im sure there is no question about the judges…they are so much capable of the task..

with the idea of ‘LUTONG MAKAW’.. well, i hope its not!

    Hi ark,

I hope the “LUTONG MAKAW” is just an opinion and not true. I am pretty sure that the judges had a set of criteria to follow. Them being professional, may have done their very best. For now, 2010 Silmugi Festival Queen is over, so let’s just cheer on the winners and hope our favorites for next year’s search will make it as The Queen! :D
