Letter from a Borbonanon:

Ang KATUNGGAN SA BORBON

Pagka-anindot nga sud-ongon sa kahoy’ng lapis-lapis
Sa iyang gitas-on siya mapasigarbohon
Diin daplin sa baybayon sa tanang kahoy’ng mabiay-biayon .
Panahon miabot, mipasipa kaniya
Hangin nga makusog, ulan nga masubra
Mikuso-kuso sa baybayon, ug sa mga kahoy mi-uyda
Unos nga masilagon, sa kapungot nagdala
Kabangis sa panahon, mipukan kaniya.
Bunga sa lapis-lapis sa balod gianod
Halapad nga kadagatan, latas sa dakong lawod
Padulngan unsa’y dangatan, wala siya masayod
Kalinaw sa panahon, maoy bugtong manalipod.
Bunga sa lapis-lapis sa halayong baybayon midagsa
Maampingong mga balud kaniya mipahiluna
Miturok ug nabuhi sa maabi-abihong luna
Midako ug milabong, sa yuta ug ubang kahoy gipangga .
Lapis-lapis ikaw karon, ang kinaiyahan nagmaampingon
Sa uban mong mga kahoy ikaw mapa-ubsanon
Sa gagmay mong mga bunga ikaw maki-angayon
Luyo sa kasakit, ikaw magmalampuson.
Sa tanang mga taga BORBON,
Sama kita sa lapis-lapis nga gipadpad sa kinaiyahan
Kay ang atong pangagamhanan wala nila igsapayan,
Kon unsa ang dangatan sa atong mga katunggan
Kon dili nato tamnan og prinsipyo nga gipadangat
sa atong mga kabatan-onan.

Wow, tinuod gyud ka Jay nga ang mga Taga-Borbon, wala igsapayan ang kasikas sa mga panghitabo sa atong pangagamhanan. Sama sa lapis-lapis, ang mga mapa-ubsanong Borbonanon magmalampuson sa gihapon taliwala sa mga kasakit nga gisagubang sa atong pinalanggang lungsod.
sa dihang inanay nakong gilad-ok ang unod sa imong balak…akong naaninaw nga daghan pang lapis2x nga lumad nga gianod nga hangtod ning higayona nag-utaw2x gihapon sa dakong lawod sa pag-antos…naglaom nga unta mabangalan o idagsa sa layong katunggan nga makiangayon ug mapinanggaon…

Jay, salamat sa imong pagpa-ambit sa imong maanindut nga mga pulong. Nindut kaayo paminawon nga bisan sa kabata pa sa imong pangidaron, ang imong talento nga gipakita, hinog na kaayo sa panahon.
Seriously, I really want to commend you for your talent. This reminds me of one of my high school literature exercises where I had to analyze a poem and find analogies of it within the real world. My mind readily digested every word you wrote and here I am trying to find analogies to your wonderful poem.
A Lapis-lapis could be any of our hardworking grandparents and parents of any Borbonanon; the fisherman, farmers, seamstress, teachers, cooks or sari-sari store owners, that no matter how hard they worked, what they have were just enough to make ends meet. Poverty is their main enemy.
A Lapis-lapis could be any educated Borbonanon professionals but due to limited working opportunities provided by our government or by the private sector, they were not able to harness their creative abilities and apply their working potentials in town or in the country. Lack of opportunity and not supportive society make our people go astray.
We, the “Lapis-lapis of the Katunggan sa Borbon” have gone thru different kind of storms in our lives such as extreme poverty, mother- nature’s fury or lack of government’s social responsibility BUT we, “the Lapis-lapis and bunga sa Lapis-Lapis” have remained hopeful that things will be better for ourselves and our Borbon’s future.
I was astounded by your composition. Good work bro! Keep it up.

Continue your plans in our sleeping town. No problem lasts forever. No matter how permanently fixed in the center of our lives it may seem, whatever we experience in this ever-changing life is sure to pass. Even PAIN.
Difficult situations often bring out qualities in us that otherwise might not have risen to the surface, such as courage, faith, and our need for one another. All of our experiences can help us to grow.
But we may need patience. Some wounds cannot be held quickly. They must be given time.In the meantime, we can appreciate the new capabilities we are developing, such as the capacity to mourn and the willingness to accept responsibility. Let us share our losses and triumphs with each other, for that is how we gather courage.
